Incredible healing experiences can occur through our mind and body alone. This phenomenon is used daily in the medical field. And it got a name: The “placebo effect”. But how does this inner healing work, and what lies at its source? Can we trigger that self healing power ourselves? More and more Online Courses claim to strengthen our self healing powers, but what are they worth?

In medicine, the placebo effect is used in treatments (sometimes even without the client’s knowledge) and new drugs’ developmental process.

If a new drug is not more potent than a placebo pill, then it will not be permitted to the market.
Both strategies work because clients DO feel better after taking a placebo drug. So doctors revert to this, especially in complex cases.

What is our takeaway from this? What is already routine in medicine has the potency to make us wonder. How come placebo treatments work so well? Isn’t it possible to heal by ourselves in that case?

Well, not everything heals by itself. Therefore we do need help. An infection may be too strong to be handled by the body, an injury too deep. We need rest, good food, loving people next to us, bandages, and more ingredients to help our bodies heal.

It’s the same with our minds. Depression can bog us down. We are no more able to move out of bed and form a positive thought. Again we need assistance from the outside. Somebody who takes us out of the situation and helps us to stand on our own feet.

The Key is here not to DEPEND on the outside for the inner healing. We should take assistance from outside as a kind of help for self-help.

Lissa Rankin describes this very nicely in her book mind over medicine. To quote her: “Data suggests that your body can heal itself, but it does so much more effectively when the process is facilitated by the right kinds of healers who support the body’s self-healing process.”

What kind of self healing techniques exists?

Generally speaking, everything we do for the mind and body is meant to help them heal. Even a surgeon cannot do anything when the body does not cooperate by connecting the nerves and closing the wounds.

So we may categorize between “gross” techniques and “subtle” techniques.

All of us know the “gross” stuff, and we find it mainly in the hospital area: The two most prominent are medication & surgery.

Both things are necessary and reasonable simply because we don’t have another option for some clients.

Then comes the “middle stuff” like homeopathy, diets, training for the body like yoga, Qui Gong or skillful sports, and many other things we do to stay healthy or get healthy again.

What characterizes these things is that they still aim for the body for most of it.

Now we come to a kind of new category: The “subtle” stuff. This is where we mainly address the mind for a healing effect. Naturally, meditation, hypnosis, and trance experiences play a significant role here.

That is why most of the mushrooming self healing courses have guided meditations at their core.

Meditation is the best practice for spiritual development, but it is not sufficient for healing. So the most courses are still lacking the essence.

We realize now in the study group around Dr. Hans TenDam that it is the SOUL we should address and which can express itself through the mind and the body.

By catching the signals of the soul, it is possible to achieve much more profound healing and transformation of ourselves. So this is a new category, and we could call it the “causal” stuff.

The problem here: Science still doesn’t know what the soul is, and there is even a debate whether it exists or not. This debate is explored further in my article on Soul and Science.

Some people say it’s all about affirmations. In a way, that is right but is our mind ready to take these affirmations and process them in a way that works for us? I assume that is not always the case.

So the mind also needs healing. Science knows how certain emotional conditions can turn our neurotransmitter balance upside down.

We need an agent beyond the mind to rectify the mind – someone or something that controls and works through the mind. And that is the soul.

Techniques like inner child work, past life therapy, or cleaning bring us in contact with our soul’s wisdom and can set its computer – the mind – in a calm and steady condition.

Does everyone have self healing power?

Basically, yes. Simply because everybody got a soul. The difference lies in its accessibility. Does it have some space? Can it shine to some extend? Or is it closed up and burned up?

In the second case, it can become challenging to contact our self healing powers, and most of the time, only gross interventions can give some relief.

Such heavy cases appear like Alzheimer, severe drug addiction, schizophrenia, or other psychotic disorders. Still, in these situations also prayer can help.

For all other categories of illnesses, self healing power (actually the soul’s power) plays a vital role, far too much underestimated.

And it depends on us whether we acknowledge our responsibility in this play of health (and wealth) or not. It’s on us to learn to listen to our bodies and to figure out what we should do or not do.

We need to observe our thinking and feeling and keep a close eye on the resulting actions. Are our steps proper, or should we modify some thinking patterns, get rid of heavy postulates, and correct emotions and habits?

For this, willpower is required. No will – no self healing power. Now how to gain willpower if you have none? Pray for it with all your heart. Pray for it to the highest entity you can think of. Cause prayers are always heard.

Now some may ask how to pray the right way. If tears are welling up in your eyes and your heart is moved by tender feelings, be assured that connection is established. And by the way, the heart is also the seat of the soul.

Is our health determined by our karma?

In “whispers of the brighter world”, channeled by the medium Madame Helene Peyret, it is said repeatedly that no one can escape their karma.

This is true especially for those how to believe they can design their future to their liking. But, you know – Men plans and God laughs! Our destiny is in his hands.

Still, like a father wants his son to grow, the divine also wants us to learn about the complex fabric of karma and the influence of all previous incarnations on our present life. By His grace (or Her grace?), we get more and more opportunities to transform ourselves.

For example, in a regression session, not everyone is graced with a past life experience that transforms his life or an inner child work that frees him from lifelong fears.

These opportunities seem to come when the person concerned is in deep struggle and sincerely aspires for salvation. Then intervention sets in. So, with deep soul work, we skip karma – or the higher authority allows us karma to be dismissed, at least a bit of it.

Sometimes the question arises: Is it our fault that we get ill? Some say things like: Yes, it’s all your karma, and therefore you are to blame. Please, this is COMPLETE BULLSH*T! There is no place for accusation and guilt here. If someone suffers, he deserves compassion, attention, care, and love.

Still, we may ask if this illness has a lesson for us to be learned or wants a hidden trauma to come to the forefront and finally – be healed.


In this article, we gave a glimpse of what kind of possibilities of healing lies within us.

Since we all have a soul, we are all connected to the divine, and since the divine is pure and hole, we can become just like that.

The way to healing is very individual since every starting point (karma) is also highly individual.

Again, the future is not fixed. There is certainly a plan to be worked out, but we have our chances to make a change.
